After years of breaking out and the wrinkles creeping in, I finally found that adding essential oils to my homemade face lotion has made all the difference. Before I continue, I want to say it very important for you to choose a high quality essential oil. I choose to use Young Living oils. There are other good brands out there but doing research first is imperative. Remember, what you put ON your body, you put IN your body. (consider using the THINK DIRTY app to see how toxic your current personal care products are)
My recipe for homemade face moisturizer: 2 ounces of coconut oil (whipped in the kitchenaid mixer) 20 drops each of : frankincense, lemon and sandalwood essential oils.
****Lemon oil will make your skin more prone to burning in the sun, so please do not apply 12-24 hours before going in the sun or consider using Melaleuca oil instead. I switch to Melaleuca in the summer with no increased breakouts.
I have normal to dry skin, so coconut oil has not been a problem for me. In the winter I add ½ teaspoon of Shea Butter to be extra moisturizing. Some people with oilier skin may not be able to tolerate coconut oil and may instead choose to use another oil like grapeseed, almond or avocado. You could even make a cheater recipe using a scent free organic lotion and add the essential oils. Why essential oils in your face lotion? They have therapeutic properties. For example. I’ve noticed the color to return to my face and my wrinkle lines to diminish since I began using the oils in my moisturizer.
